The Special Olympics World Games is the flagship event of the Special Olympics movement. World Summer and Winter games are held every four years. The last Special Olympics World Summer Games was held in Dublin, Ireland in 2003. This was the first time this major event was held outside of the United States, and the New Zealand team did exceptionally well, winning 19 gold, 21 silver and 20 bronze medals, and achieving 46 personal bests.
Last year Special Olympics NZ celebrated their 20th anniversary. We think their work is amazing and would like to encourage our volunteers to take an interest in this organisation and maybe even volunteer for the Nationals Games in December!?! If volunteering is not an option for you, the organisation is looking for sponsors of athletes as well. Sponsorship is $250 per Athlete.
NZ National & Asia Pacific Invitation Games 2005The 2005 Special Olympics New Zealand National & Asia Pacific Invitation Games are being held in Christchurch from Wednesday 30th November to Sunday 4th December 2005.
Volunteers are the heart of any Special Olympics event, and a large number of volunteers are needed for a wide variety of roles to ensure this is a quality sports event. Volunteers will receive training, morning and afternoon tea, lunch (for those staying all day), tickets to the Opening and Closing Ceremonies, a uniform T shirt and hat and a Volunteer Thank You party on Sunday 4 December. We value your contribution and hope you will feel rewarded through your participation in the Games and these small tokens of our gratitude.
