Survey of impact of rising petrol prizes on volunteering

Dear volunteers,

we received the e-mail below from Volunteering Canterbury promoting a survey done by Volunteering NZ.

"Dear Friend,

Volunteering New Zealand is undertaking a survey to assess the impact of
rising petrol prices on volunteering. The Government Office for the Community
and Voluntary Sector has indicated they see the results as being important in
their supportive work for volunteering.

There are two separate surveys, one for your organisation, and one to be
completed by volunteers. Each should take around three minutes to complete.
Copies of the survey can be downloaded from http://www.volunteeringnz.org.nz/ or
we can e-mail to you on request vc@volcan.org.nz (they are pdf files). If you
are able to help with this survey it would be appreciated.

Warm regards and Happy New Year
from the team at Volunteering Canterbury"

Maybe you have the three minutes to fill out the form. You can send it back to Volunteering Canterbury:

Volunteering Canterbury
141 Hereford St
Christchurch

or directly to Volunteering NZ:

Volunteering NZ
PO Box 24 526
Wellington
Fax 04- 384 3637

Your input will help to promote volunteering and who knows, maybe we can unlock some resources??? :-)

Thank you,
Jessica

Special Olympics - National NZ Asia Pacific Games in Christchurch

Special Olympics is a year round programme of sports training and competition for young people and adults with an Intellectual disability. Athletes can be as young as five and there is no upper age limit.

The New Zealand Special Olympics Foundation is a registered charitable Trust (1985) with thousands of volunteers and over three thousand athletes involved throughout the country. New Zealand Special Olympics is accredited to Special Olympics Inc. Special Olympics Inc. have their headquarters in Washington D.C., USA and is the official world governing body for Special Olympics programmes in over 150 countries.

The Special Olympics World Games is the flagship event of the Special Olympics movement. World Summer and Winter games are held every four years. The last Special Olympics World Summer Games was held in Dublin, Ireland in 2003. This was the first time this major event was held outside of the United States, and the New Zealand team did exceptionally well, winning 19 gold, 21 silver and 20 bronze medals, and achieving 46 personal bests.

Last year Special Olympics NZ celebrated their 20th anniversary. We think their work is amazing and would like to encourage our volunteers to take an interest in this organisation and maybe even volunteer for the Nationals Games in December!?! If volunteering is not an option for you, the organisation is looking for sponsors of athletes as well. Sponsorship is $250 per Athlete.

NZ National & Asia Pacific Invitation Games 2005

The 2005 Special Olympics New Zealand National & Asia Pacific Invitation Games are being held in Christchurch from Wednesday 30th November to Sunday 4th December 2005.
Volunteers are the heart of any Special Olympics event, and a large number of volunteers are needed for a wide variety of roles to ensure this is a quality sports event. Volunteers will receive training, morning and afternoon tea, lunch (for those staying all day), tickets to the Opening and Closing Ceremonies, a uniform T shirt and hat and a Volunteer Thank You party on Sunday 4 December. We value your contribution and hope you will feel rewarded through your participation in the Games and these small tokens of our gratitude.
